Half-Staff Alerts & Honorees for December 9
All STATE Flags across RHODE ISLAND (RI: on Dec. 9 - 10): Governor ordered RI State Flag (only) at state facilities across Rhode Island to half-staff, until sunset, on Tue., Dec. 10, the date of interment (TBD), in memory of former Rhode Island Superior Court Presiding Justice Joseph F. [ Note: This order was delivered to Flag Steward at 1100 hours today, and was unable to be posted until now - 3 hours late. My apologies. ]
All STATE Flags across PENNSYLVANIA (PA: on Dec. 9 and date of interment - TBD): Governor ordered PA Commonwealth / State Flag (only) at state facilities across Pennsylvania to half-staff, until sunset, on Mon., Dec. 9, and again on his date of interment (TBD), to honor former state Sen. J. Doyle Corman, who passed away December 8, 2019. CLICK HERE to read the Flag order. [ Note: This order was posted on Flag Steward 3 hours late becasue it was not distributed via email to its regular distribtuion list. It was found posted on Twitter. ]
All Flags across UTAH (UT: on Dec. 9): Governor ordered all (US & State) Flags at state facilities across Utah to half-staff, from sunrise to sunset, on Mon., Dec. 9, the date of interment, to honor the life and service of Chief Warrant Officer 2 Kirk T. Fuchigami Jr., who was killed in action in Afghanistan, and will be laid to rest that day at Brigham City Cemetery. All Flags across NEW JERSEY (NJ: on Dec. 9): Governor ordered all (US & State) Flags at state facilities across New Jersey to half-staff, from sunrise to sunset, on Mon., Dec. 9, in recognition and mourning of a dedicated and tireless public servant, Calvin D. All Flags across FLORIDA (FL: from Dec. 6 - 13): Governor ordered all (US & State) Flags at state facilities across Minnesota to half-staff, from Dec. 6 to sunset on Fri., Dec. 13, in honor and remembrance of the NAS Pensacola shooting victims, especially the 3 US Navy personnel killed - US Navy Airman Mohmmed Sameh Haitham from Florida, US Navy Airman Apprentice Cameron Scott Walters from Georgia, and US Navy Ensign Joshua Kaleb Watson, a Naval Academy Graduate from Alabama. On this date, December 9th, in 1775, the Battle of Great Bridge was fought in Virginia. During this battle, the 'Patriots,' the Virginia militia forces, defeated the British Red Coats and drove them, including the Royal Governor Lord Dunmore, out of the Colony of Virginia. The Patriot forces, called 'Rebels' by the British, now controlled all of Virginia . This was one of the first signals of freedom for the colonies and added momentum towards declaring independence from British rule seven months later.
