Today's Moment to Remember
... Why did many celebrate this date in the 1930s by saying 'Happy Repeal Day'? ...
Picture
On this date, December 5, in 1933, the 21st Amendment was ratified (passed) by the required number of states; thereby, repealing (cancelling) the 18th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.  In others words, after 13 years of no manufacturing, transporting, or selling alcoholic drinks in the United States, the corks could be popped and bottle caps snapped off again in homes, bars, and restaurants across the United States.  The Prohibition Amendment, the 18th Amendment, was reversed to the delight of many Americans - who wanted to freely choose what they could drink.
