Half-Staff Alerts & Honorees for November 30
All Flags on the State Capitol of SOUTH DAKOTA (SD: on Nov. 30): Governor ordered all (US & State) Flags atop the State Capitol building to half-staff, from sunrise to sunset, on Sat., Nov. 30, the date of interment, in honor the life of former, longtime state legislator T. Loren Christianson, who served in the South Dakota House of Representatives from 1977 to 1994. GO HERE to read the Flag order.
All Flags across Lowdnes County, Alabama (AL: immediately until Dec. 2): Lowndes County officials, assumedly with approval and authority of the Governor, ordered all (US & State) Flags across the county to half-staff, immediately until sunset on Mon., Dec. 2, the date of interment, in honor of Sheriff John Williams.
All Flags in Covington and across Newton County, Georgia (GA: Dec. 2): Covington Mayor and Newton County officials, assumedly with approval and authority of the Governor, ordered all (US & State) Flags across the city and county to half-staff, immediately until sunset on Mon., Dec. 2, the date of interment, in honor of Almond Turner, a former Covington Assistant Police Chief and current Newton County Board of Education member. Did you know that Native Americans serve in the U.S. military at a higher rate than any other demographic in America? Yes, this interesting fact pleasantly surprised me as well. Earlier this month, the Military Times website published an insightful article about Native Americans' contributions to our military.
And, did you know there will be a National Native American Veterans Memorial built and opened on the Washington, DC Mall in November of 2020? Again, that was something I didn't know about until now.
