On this date, October 10, in 1845, the U.S. Naval Academy opened in Annapolis, Maryland. It is the second oldest of the 5 service academies - preparing its student body of 4,600 'Midshipmen' to become officers in the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps. And, yes, that is its motto and Latin translation:
