Unfortunately, there were 2 military personnel killed in Global War on Terror (GWOT) combat zones recently. US Army Sergeant First Class (SFC) Dustin Ard, of Hyde Park, Utah died on Aug. 29, 2019, from combat wounds sustained while fighting in Zabul Province, Afghanistan. SFC Ard was Special Forces / Green Beret soldier serving with 2nd Battalion, 1st Special Forces Group (Airborne) out of Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington. He is survived by his wife, daughter, and an unborn child.
And, on Thursday, September 5th, the Department of Defense announced that a military service member had been killed by a terrorist car bomb near the U.S. embassy in Kabul, Afghanistan. The service member's name will not be released until his/her next of kin (parents or other legal guardians) are personally told of the news (usually within 24 hours of the death).
