V-J Day?
VJ-Day celebrations vary by countries. It was August 15, 1945, in Japan, when they announced their surrender. But, it was still August 14th in England and America. Great Britain celebrates V-J Day on August 15th and USA celebrates it on September 2nd - when the Japanese signed the surrender terms.
Regardless, on this date, August 14th (GMT), in 1945, Japan's Emperor Hirohito accepted the Allies surrender terms to stop the destruction of his country and loss of lives to the Allies bombings. Emperor Hirohito, who had never spoken on radio, recorded the announcement that Japan had surrendered and broadcasted it across Japan. The Emperor sent a delegate to stand-in for him during the formal surrender ceremony aboard the USS Missouri on September 2, 1945 in Tokyo Bay.
