Today's Star-Spangled, Inspirational Soldiers
[ From left to right, California National Guard soldiers: Staff Sgt. Isaiah Locklear, Staff Sgt. Michael Marl and Specialist Mariel Young are honored by Gilbert Sandborn, civilian aide to the secretary of the Army, for coming to aid of two teenage shooting victims at the Shops at Tanforan in San Bruno on July 3rd = educational use / photo credit to Zachary Clark of SM Daily Journal ]
On July 3, 2019, while National Guard soldiers, SSG Locklear, SSG Marl, and SPC Young were meeting at the National Guard recruiting office inside the Tanforan mall, a shootout occurred between teenagers. The shootout was very close to the National Guard office, so courageously, SSG Locklear and Marl rushed to the shooting scene to find 2 teenagers wounded. SPC Young, a medic, joined them to provide immediate to the shooting victims. We honor and thank these soldiers for their lifesaving measures free of any judgment of the victims and circumstances. Today's Star-Spangled, Inspirational Veteran
The Army is being asked to review WWII Army medic, Corporal Waverly Woodsoon Jr's actions on Omaha Beach during D-Day for a potential award upgrade from Bronze Star to the Medal of Honor. On the basis of what appears to be a memo to the Roosevelt White House from War Department aide Philleo Nash, back in 1945, the recommendation was made for the nation’s highest combat medal. But for some reason, this soldier from a segregated/black combat unit, had his award recommendation bumped down. Fortunately, Woodson's wife and a Maryland US Senator discovered this error and are working to fix it.
