Today's Moment to Remember
[ Memorial to Alexander Hamilton in Weehawken, NJ alongside the Hudson River ]
On this date, June 11, in 1804, long-time friends, but political enemies Alexander Hamilton, of the Federalist Party, and Aaron Burr, of the Democratic-Republican Party, met on the dueling grounds of Weehawken, New Jersey, across the Hudson River from New York City. They had a duel to end their constant disagreement over politics. Aaron Burr, then Vice President of the United States, shot and killed Hamilton, our nation's first Secretary of Treasury and Revolutionary War hero.

It's surreal / hard to believe this happened - our nation's Vice President shooting and killing someone over a political disagreement. As VP, he was "immune" to prosecution for murdering Hamilton and even after his term as VP, he was never charged for killing Hamilton. Amazing!
