Today's Moment to Remember
On this date, June 11, in 1963, Alabama's Governor Wallace finally stepped aside when President John F. Kennedy, and the Alabama National Guard that JFK took under Presidential control, forced integration of the University of Alabama. Finally, 9 years after the US Supreme Court outlawed segregated schools with its Brown v Board of Education ruling, the first 2 black citizens were allowed to register and enroll at the University of Alabama.
[ Vivian Malone Jones enters, the same doors that Gov Wallace blocked earlier, to register for classes at the Univ. of Alabama ]
