Today's Moment to Remember

​On May 14, 1607, colonists from England established the first settlement in the Americas - initially called "Jame Fort," but later renamed "Jamestown."  The settlement was on the banks of the James River (called "Powhatan" by Native Americans).  The settlers, from the Virginia Company of London, came under attack by native Americans that ruled the area within a few weeks.  For the next 3 years, deaths from fighting native Americans, disease, and famine nearly ended the settlement.
