To better serve our fellow Flag Stewards, notably our Flag Steward app users, Monday (3/18) night we began to send our daily push notification with half-staff alerts, around 10pm EST / 7pm PST the night before, to end the potentially annoying early morning (6am EST / 3am PST) mobile app notifications. We hope you find this to be a better solution and helpful to plan ahead if your state has its US, or State, and/or both Flags at half-staff the next morning. ;)
Unfortunately, I've been unable to create app notifications to go out at sunrise for users in each time zone.  So, this night-before notification is the best solution I can come up with right now.  Thanks for your support and understanding.

On March 21, 1965, the third Selma to Montgomery Civil Rights March began.  After two earlier unsuccessful attempts, this 54-mile march to the Alabama state capital was completed on March 25th.  Led by Martin Luther King Jr., this historic march of 3,200 civil rights demonstrators was to raise awareness of African-America voting rights in Alabama.  For this third attempt, President Lyndon Johnson called in the Alabama National Guardsmen and FBI agents to safely escort the marchers - who had twice been stopped, and some beaten and arrested at Selma's Edmund Pettus Bridge.

When the marchers reached Montgomery, thousands more joined them.  Upon reaching the steps of the Alabama State Capitol, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. gave a speech to the crowd and a live TV audience.  This march for liberty and justice helped secure voting registration and rights for blacks in Alabama and across the South.
