To better serve our fellow Flag Stewards, notably our Flag Steward app users, last night we began to send our daily push notification with half-staff alerts, around 10pm EST / 7pm PST the night before, to end the potentially annoying early morning (6am EST / 3am PST) mobile app notifications. We hope you find this to be a better solution and helpful to plan ahead if your state has its US, or State, and/or both Flags at half-staff the next morning. ;)
Unfortunately, I've been unable to create app notifications to go out at sunrise for users in each time zone. So, this night-before notification is the best solution I can come up with right now. Thanks for your support and understanding.

On this 'Women to Honor Wednesday' of 'Women's History Month,' we recall
... a brave, life-rescuing lighthouse keeper - Ida Lewis ...
Soon after Ida Lewis' dad was assigned to be the lighthouse keeper for the Lime Rock Light in Newport Harbor, Rhode Island, in 1857. he suffered a stroke and was unable to perform his duties. So, his family, led by Ida Lewis, began performing lighthouse duties for him. Ida was a great swimmer and strong rower - skills she used to rescue drowning boaters and swimmers from the choppy and dangerous entrance to Newport Harbor. During her lifetime, she was credited with saving at least 18 lives. Her earliest rescue occurred when she was only 12 years old. Her most well-known rescue of two soldiers, SGT James Adams, and PVT John McLaughlin, happened on March 29, 1869, when a young boy was guiding the soldiers through the harbor in a small boat during a snowstorm. When she saw the capsized boat, Ida, not taking time to put on a coat or shoes, jumped into her rowboat with her younger brother and rowed out to rescue the drowning soldiers. For her actions, she was awarded the Gold Lifesaving Medal - the first woman to receive this award from the US government.
