On March 11, 1993 Janet Reno was confirmed by the US Senate to become the first female Attorney General of the United States.
She served as the 78th U.S. Attorney General from 1993 to 2001. She is the second-longest serving US Attorney General ever. Some of the Justice Department actions during her tenure included:
- the capture and conviction of the 'Unabomber' - Ted Kaczynski, the Oklahoma City bombers - Timothy McVeigh and Terry Nichols, and the 1993 World Trade Center bombers - Sheik Omar Abdel-Rahman and others
- the investigation into potential affairs with Paula Jones and Monica Lewinsky by the President
- the 51-day Waco siege with the 'Branch Davidians'
and
- an antitrust suit against Microsoft

For their heroic actions on July 12, 2018, General Austin "Scott" Miller, U.S. Forces-Afghanistan and Resolute Support commander, presented 5 soldiers of the 101st Airborne Division, Sergeant First Class Andrew Six, Chief Warrant Officer 2 Jonathan Cole, Captain Benjamin Krzeczowski, Sergeant Armando Yanez, and Corporal Emmanuel Bynum, with the Distinguished Flying Cross in January. This military decoration is awarded to U.S. Armed Forces personnel, who during aerial flight, perform heroically or with extraordinary achievement during combat operations.
