As part of Flag Steward's celebration of Black History Month, this 'Military Monday,' remembrance is dedicated to Colin Powell. On January 20, 2001, General Colin Powell made another first for America - becoming the first African-American appointed as Secretary of State. During his 35-year US Army career, General Colin Powell was also the first-ever African-American to serve as the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff - the top military officer leading the entire US Armed Forces.
