... the Silent Sentinels ...
... the Silent Sentinels ...
OTD in 1917, a group of women seeking, and not getting, President Wilson's support of women's suffrage (right to vote) decided to start a protest. So, on January 10, 1917, the Silent Sentinels began their women's suffrage (right to vote) protest outside the White House. This group of women, led by Alice Paul, was made up of members of the National Women's Party. They protested 6 days a week for 2 and 1/2 years - until June 1919 when the 19th Amendment passed through both houses of the US Congress.
