Today's Flag Status
Our Flag flies at full staff across the USA, except in IN and NJ.
Our Flag flies at full staff across the USA, except in IN and NJ.
In INDIANA, the Governor has ordered the US and State Flag in Indiana's Floyd County to half-staff on Mon, Jan. 7th, to honor former state Rep. William Cochran.
In NEW JERSEY, the US and State Flags are half-staff, on Jan. 7th, to honor Assemblyman Albert S. Burstein - a WWII hero (recipient of the Bronze Star and French Legion of Merit) and long-time public servant to NJ
[ Note - Interesting local half-staff: In Beckley, WV, the Chick-fil-A is flying its US Flag at half-staff to honor a US Marine, Terrance Gober II, killed in a car accident in front of Chick-fil-A last week. And, on Tuesday, the Chick-fil-A at Beckley Galleria is going to announce a scholarship fund to benefit US Marine Gober's son. ]

Today's Moment to Remember
... from President Franklin D. Roosevelt's 1941 State of the Union Address ...
... from President Franklin D. Roosevelt's 1941 State of the Union Address ...
On January 6, 1941, President Franklin Delano Roosevelt (FDR) delivered his "Four Freedoms" speech. During the 1941 State of the Union Address, FDR outlined 4 liberties that folks "everywhere in the world" should enjoy:
Freedom of Speech
Freedom of Worship
Freedom from Want
Freedom from Fear
And, of course, 11 months later, with the surprise attack by the Japanese on Pearl Harbor, FDR challenged US citizens to fight for theirs and others freedom from cruel leaders in Germany and Japan.

Today's Slice of Americana - Sports
Amazingly, OTD, Jan. 7th, during the 1971-72 NBA season, the LA Lakers won their 33rd straight game. This win streak still stands as the NBA record for the longest win streak. And, they went on to win the NBA Championship Trophy that season.
