Today's Flag Status
In 48 of our 50 states, the US Flag flies at full staff. WI and MA are flying the US Flag at half-staff. And, PA has its last day of State Flag half-staff.

In MASSACHUSETTS, the Governor has ordered the US and State Flags to half-staff on Friday, the day of interment, in honor of US Army Air Corps 1st Lieutenant Allan Turner of Brookline. He was reported missing on July 17, 1945 while flying a C-109 over the Himalayas with 4 aboard. In 2007, the crash was identified near the vicinity of Bishmaknagar Village, State of Arunachal Pradesh, Republic of India. And, in 2018, his remains were identified and moved to his home state so, Lieutenant Turner can be laid to rest in Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, Agawam, MA.
In WISCONSIN, the US and State Flags at half-staff honor former State Senator Walter John Chilsen of Weston. Chilsen, a World War II veteran and Purple Heart recipient, passed away on Christmas morning at the age of 95. Chilsen represented the people of the 29th Senate District for six terms from 1967 - 1990. Following his service in the Wisconsin State Senate, Chilsen served on the Weston Town Board from 1990 - 2017.
In PENNSYLVANIA, the Governor has ordered the PA State / Commonwealth Flag to half-staff to honor EMT Robert Kohler Sr., who died while on duty at Station 23, Northeastern Area EMS, Manchester, PA, on Christmas morning. and it will remain at half-staff until the day of his interment (burial / funeral) on Jan. 4th
[ Note: Just discovered this morning, in Fresno, CA, the Mayor ordered the City Flag to half-staff until Monday to honor local businessman and philanthropist, David McDonald.]

This Week's #NeverForgottenFriday Honorees
Fortunately, there were no US military service members killed in Global War on Terror (GWOT) combat zones this past week. During 2018, a total of 32 US service members died while assigned to GWOT combat units - 17 serving in Iraq and 15 serving in Afghanistan.
Since we have not had Pre-Pledge Tributes during the past 2 weeks of school holidays, we have not been able to highlight and honor our recently fallen first responders. So, today, we're remembering them.

In the past couple weeks since we last honored Law Enforcement Officer (LEO) Line of Duty Deaths (LODDs), 5 peace officers have died. They served and protected communities in Illinois, Kentucky, California, and Georgia.
And the Fire and EMS Line of Duty Deaths (LODDs) number 5 as well serving communities in Washington, Pennsylvania, Mississippi, and New Jersey.
Please, pray for all these fallen first responders and their family and friends in mourning.

On this date (OTD), January 4, in 1865, the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) opened its first HQ on Broad Street in NYC. NYSE, nicknamed 'The Big Board' is an American Stock Exchange and is the richest stock exchange in world - valued at more than $22 Trillion ( which looks like this $22,000,000,000,000 ... YIKES! ;) The NYSE trading floor hosts an auction where buyers and sellers trades shares of stock in public companies.
