for Friday, December 28, 2018

Today's Star-Spangled Inspirational Quote
... refers to life in Iowa - the topic of Today's Moment to Remember ...
"
I am proud to have been born in Iowa. Through the eyes of a ten-year-old boy, it was a place of adventure and daily discoveries - the wonder of the growing crops, the excitements of the harvest, the journeys to the woods for nuts and hunting, the joys of snowy winters, the comfort of the family fireside, of good food and tender care."
- Herbert Hoover
Today's Flag Status
Across the USA and its Territories, the US Flag flies at HALF-STAFF to honor the life and service of our 41st US President, George H. W. Bush, and will remain so until sunset on December 30th.  And, PA has a concurrent half-staff honoree.

On this date, Dec. 28th in 1846, Iowa became the 29th State to join the Union.  Iowa is bordered by 6 states: WI, IL, MO, NE, SD, & MN.  The Iowa State Flag looks similar to the Flag of France because it was part of the French Louisiana territory.  Nicknamed the "Hawkeye State," Iowa is a core part of the 'Corn Belt' in the United States.  The largest city in Iowa is its capital, Des Moines - home of the beautiful, ornate, dome-happy (5 domes) Iowa Capitol Building.
