Today's Flag Status
Across America, the US Flag is at FULL STAFF.

In TENNESSEE, Governor Haslam ordered a day of mourning (without lowering the US or State Flag) to honor the service and sacrifice of U.S. Army Air Force Second Lieutenant Martin O’Callaghan, Jr., then 22 of Memphis, who was killed during a mission as a P-38 Lightning aircraft pilot in World War II in Maribor, Yugoslavia now known as Slovenia. He was serving with the 96th Fighter Squadron, 82nd Fighter Group when his plane was struck by anti-aircraft fire which caused him to crash in occupied territory on February 15, 1945. In March O'Callaghan's remains were finally identified and prepared for a burial back home.
In PENNSYLVANIA, the Governor directed the Commonweatlh (State) Flag of PA only to remain at half-staff until further notice (probably until the final funeral) to honor the Tree of Life Synagogue shooting victims.

On this date (OTD), November 5th of 1872, Susan B. Anthony, as a sign of protest, ignored voting laws by casting her vote in the elections. She was fined $100 for breaking the law. Unfortunately, it took another 48 years of civil rights work, after this daring vote by Anthony, before approval of the 19th Amendment gave women the right to vote.
