Today's Star-Spangled Inspiration
... comes from John Brown - who wrote the following prediction, of much bloodshed / Civil War, after his abolitionist uprising at Harper's Ferry failed ...

... a warning signal for the forthcoming Civil War ...
On this date (OTD), October 16, in 1859, John Brown and a group of abolitionists (folks who wanted to end slavery in the US) raided and overtook a fort at Harper's Ferry, VA. Two days later, upon orders from President Buchanan, US Marines under the command of, then Colonel, Robert E. Lee apprehended Brown and ended the uprising. In December, John Brown and others assisting him with the raid on Harper's Ferry were executed for treason (being traders against the US government). This skirmish provided a peek at the war over slavery forthcoming.
