In New York, US and State Flags are half-staff until the day of interment (burial) for the last of the 20 victims in the 'Schoharie limo crash'' (verifying if half-staff ends on Monday at sunset).
[Note: In Pennsylvania, the PA State Flag is at half-staff until sunset on Monday to honor Pennsylvania Department of Corrections Officer Mark Anthony Gaspich.
In Alaska, the AK State Flag flies at half-staff until sunset on Oct 16 to honor two former Alaska state legislators: Henry Springer and Ed Willis.]

Today's Historical Moment to Remember
... one tough dude - Mr. President ...
... one tough dude - Mr. President ...
On October 14, 1912, President Theodore Roosevelt was shot before a presidential campaign speech. The bullet lodged in his chest after going through Teddy's steel eyeglass case and 50-page speech in his jacket. Roosevelt, a hunter and anatomy fan, believed that since he was not coughing blood, the bullet had not reached his lung. So, he didn't seek medical help and delivered his speech with blood soaking into his shirt. He started the speech, "Ladies and gentlemen, I don't know whether you fully understand that I have just been shot, but it takes more than that to kill a Bull Moose." Then, finally, he went to the hospital after speaking for 90 minutes. X-rays showed the bullet stopped in Teddy's chest muscle, so doctors left it there. Roosevelt carried the bullet with him for the rest of his life because the doctors decided it was more dangerous to try and remove it.
