... is from former First Lady, Eleanor Roosevelt (Franklin D. Roosevelt's wife) ...
"You gain strength, courage, and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face.
You are able to say to yourself, 'I lived through this horror. I can take the next thing that comes along.'"

Today's Historical Reminder
... a memorable First Lady - nicknamed 'First Lady of the World' ...

On this date (OTD), October 11th, of 1884, First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt was born in New York City. She was a very independent woman who accomplished many great works aside from her husband, President Franklin D. Roosevelt.  In fact, Eleanor was the U.S. delegate to the United Nations for many years and helped write the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. President Truman nicknamed her 'First Lady of the World' because of her human rights achievements.  She served as the First Chair on the United Nations Commission for Human Rights for 7 years (1946-1953).  And, on the homefront, she fought for improving the role and conditions for women in the workplace, as well as, civil rights for African-Americans, Asian-Americans, and WWII refugees.
