Across the USA, Our Flag flies at full staff, except in NC.

In North Carolina, the US and NC flags are lowered to half-staff from sunrise to sunset Tuesday, October 9 in honor of North Carolina Army National Guard Sergeant James Allen Slape of Morehead City, who was killed in Afghanistan on October 4, 2018.

On October 10, 1913, President Woodrow Wilson triggered an explosion that blew up the Gamboa Dike and brought the Atlantic and Pacific ocean waters together within the Panama Canal.

On this date (OTD), Oct 9th, in 1928, NY Yankees swept the St. Louis Cards in the 25th World Series, becoming the 1st team to sweep consecutive World Series.  Babe Ruth hit 3 HRs in the game.
