For his courageous actions in Hue City, Vietnam, during the NVA Tet Offensive in January and February of 1968, then Gunnery Sergeant John Canley's Navy Cross is being upgraded to the Medal of Honor at a White House ceremony on October 17, 2018. Then Gunnery Sergeant Canley was credited with saving the lives of Marines under his command - as he led Alpha Company, 1st Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment after its CO was badly wounded.
