Our Flag flies at full staff across the USA, except in Iowa.
In Iowa, all flags in Iowa fly at half-staff from sunrise to sunset on Thursday, September 27, 2018, to honor a fallen U.S. Marine. Lance Corporal John D. Killen III, of Davenport, went missing in action when his helicopter crashed in Vietnam on June 30, 1967. The 18-year-old’s remains were identified in March 2017 and returned to the United States for burial, along with the remains of two other Marines also killed in the crash. All three will be buried at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia, on Thursday, September 27, 2018. They will receive full military honors.

On this date (OTD), September 27, in 1722, one of America's most well-known Patriots was born - Samuel Adams of Boston. Sam Adams was an American revolutionary leader who helped spark the British revolt in Boston, served as a delegate to the Continental Congresses, and inked his name on the Declaration of Independence.
Oh yeah, and he still brews a mean set of refreshing beers ;)
