Reminders from Our Flag
for September 9, 2018

Today's Star-Spangled Inspiration
"Every time I come, I'm still amazed at the breadth California has. Big Sur, Yosemite, the desert... I love it."
- Theo James

Today's Flag Status
Across the USA, Our Flag flies at full staff, except in Ohio.

In Ohio, the US and State Flags are half-staff until sunset on Monday, Sept. 10, to honor the Cincinnati bank shooting (3 killed) victims.

OTD, September 9, in 1850, California was admitted as our 31st state.  It's name originated from the Baja California Peninsula of Mexico.  During the Mexican-American War (1846 to 1848), U.S. military forces gained control of California.
Today, CA is the most populated state, with more than 39 million residents, and it is the 3rd largest state by area.  It's highest point is Mt. Whitney at 14,505 feet and lowest is Badwater Basin, amazingly 279 feet below sea level, in Death Valley.

The rush to "live large" in California maintained momentum for 100+ years - as the Clampett's showed during their Beverly Hillbillies show ;)
Enjoy the show's theme song video.
