This Week's #NeverForgottenFriday Honoree
Sadly, there was one soldier killed in the line of duty in the Global War on Terror (GWOT) this week. Command Sergeant Major (CSM) Timothy Bolyard, 42, of Thornton, WV, was killed during an insider attack by an Afghan national police force member. CSM Bolyard, the most senior enlisted soldier training Afghan forces, was deployed with 3rd Squadron, 1st Security Force Assistance Brigade out of Ft. Campbell, KY. Unbelievably, a testament to his dedication to the US Army and the Global War on Terror, this was his 7th combat deployment.
GO HERE to learn more about CSM Bolyard's outstanding career and military decorations.

Today's Historical Reminder
... Winning back Wake Island - finally! ...
OTD, Sept. 7, in 1945, Japanese forces formally surrender Wake Island to US Marines. The nearly 4 year occupation, by the Empire of Japan, had come to an end.
Below is a promo video of movie about the US Marines repelling Japanese forces during their first attack to capture Wake Island in December of 1941. Japanese forces, now reinforced by elements that had attacked Pearl Harbor, took over Wake Island with overwhelming forces later in December.
