... a #NeverForgottenFriday ...

On this #FlagDayFriday, we recommend that your school / classroom perform this week's
Pre-Pledge Tribute

Today's Flag Status
For one of the busiest flag statuses in a long time, Our Flag flies at full staff except in AZ, TX, KY, MD, and OH.
[Note: WY has a special STATE FLAG half-staff]

In Texas, Texas and US flags are at half-staff through Saturday, Sept. 8th to honor former Presiding Judge of the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals Jack Onion, Jr.
In Maryland, the US and Maryland State Flags are lowered to half-staff, until sunset Saturday, Sept. 8, for Assistant Fire Chief Daniel "Danny" Lister of the Queen Anne-Hillsboro Volunteer Fire Company.
In Ohio, the US and State Flags are half-staff until sunset on Monday, Sept. 10, to honor the Cincinnati bank shooting (3 killed) victims.
In Arizona and Kentucky, their Flags are at half-staff, today, the day of interment (burial), to commemorate US Army Chief Warrant Officer 3 Taylor Galvin who was killed while flying his helicopter in Iraq last week.
In Wyoming, the WY STATE FLAG is at half-staff on Friday to pay tribute to
former State Legislator Richard “Dick” Waggener.

Sadly, there was one soldier killed in the line of duty in the Global War on Terror (GWOT) this week.  Command Sergeant Major (CSM) Timothy Bolyard, 42, of Thornton, WV, was killed during an insider attack by an Afghan national police force member.  CSM Bolyard, the most senior enlisted soldier training Afghan forces, was deployed with 3rd Squadron, 1st Security Force Assistance Brigade out of Ft. Campbell, KY.  Unbelievably, a testament to his dedication to the US Army and the Global War on Terror, this was his 7th combat deployment.

GO HERE to learn more about CSM Bolyard's outstanding career and military decorations.

OTD, Sept. 7, in 1945, Japanese forces formally surrender Wake Island to US Marines.  The nearly 4 year occupation, by the Empire of Japan, had come to an end.

Below is a promo video of movie about the US Marines repelling Japanese forces during their first attack to capture Wake Island in December of 1941.  Japanese forces, now reinforced by elements that had attacked Pearl Harbor, took over Wake Island with overwhelming forces later in December.
Thanks for reviewing today's 'Reminders for Our Flag'
