Unfortunately, there was one soldier killed in the line of duty in the Global War on Terror (GWOT) recently.  Chief Warrant Officer 3 Taylor J. Galvin was killed when his 'Night Stalkers,' an Army Special Operations flight group, helicopter crashed in Sinjar, Iraq on Monday.

Today's Historical Reminder
... America rose from the ashes to maintain its freedom from the British ...
Picture
You probably didn't know what hard knocks we took from the British nearly 40 years after our Independence.

On this date, August 24th, of 1814, during the War of 1812, the British forces invaded Washington, D.C. and burned the White House, Capitol, and Treasury Department - symbols of American freedom and success.  But, America, beaten down, did not break and was able to retaliate despite its center of leadership being destroyed.  A war truce was reached with the British 5 months later, in January 1815.
