Today is the birthday of American explorer Meriwether Lewis (August 18, 1774) of Virginia. Along with William Clark, he explored the American West, and in 1805, after a trek over 18 months, reached the Pacific Ocean by way of the Columbia River in Washington.

On this date (OTD), August 18th, in 1969, famed guitarist Jimmy Hendrix, closed out the Woodstock music festival by playing the Star-Spangled Banner on his electric guitar. Passionately he played the National Anthem as only he could on an electric guitar - unbelievable first 2 minutes and then he loses his mind in the music ;).
Watch / Listen and enjoy Jimmy Hendrix paying his respects to Our Nation, Our Flag, and the tenets it represents.
