On this date, August 17, of 1786, Davy Crockett was born in Limestone, North Carolina (now Tennessee).  He was an American folk hero, known as the "King of the Wild Frontier."  Crockett was also a politician who served in the U.S. House of Representatives as a delegate of Tennessee.  This picture shows Crockett, the soldier, swinging his rifle at Mexican fighters overtaking the Alamo.  He died defending the Alamo in 1836.
