Our Flag flies at full staff across the USA, except in WI
In Wisconsin, the US and State Flags are lowered from sunrise to sunset on Tuesday to honor Korean War hero U.S. Army Sgt. 1st Class R. Lloyd Ketchum - a medic who was killed while giving medical care to his battling teammates the prolific Battle of the Chosin Reservoir. His remains were recently identified and delivered back to his daughter who was a 1-year old when he was ruled MIA in November of 1950.

Today's Historical Reminder
What and when is V-J Day?
What and when is V-J Day?
V-J Day (Victory over Japan Day)
V-J Day celebrations vary by countries. It was August 15, 1945 in Japan when they announced their surrender, but it was still August 14th in England and America. Great Britain celebrates V-J Day on August 15th and USA celebrates it on September 2nd.
Regardless, on this date August 14th (GMT), in 1945, Japan's Emperor Hirohito accepted the Allies surrender terms. Emperor Hirohito, who had never spoken on radio, recorded the announcement that Japan had surrendered unconditionally, without actually stating that word, and broadcasted it across Japan. The Emperor sent a delegate to stand-in for him during the formal surrender ceremony aboard the USS Missouri on September 2, 1945 in Tokyo Bay.
Today's Slice of Americana
American humor: Today is Steve Martin's birthday (born in 1945). Steve, an American actor, comedian, writer, producer, and musician, has won an Emmy, Grammy, and Honorary Academy Award.
What is your favorite Steve Martin movie? Father of the Bride, Roxanne, Three Amigos, Pink Panther? They're all very funny.
