Women to Honor Wednesday
As we're in the process of seating a new Supreme Court Justice, we're reminded that 37 years ago, on July 7, 1981, Sandra Day O'Connor was nominated to become a Supreme Court Justice. Her nomination as the first female to serve on the Supreme Court was approved by Congress. She was sworn in on September 25, 1981. She went on to serve as a member of SCOTUS (Supreme Court of the United States) for nearly 25 years. After her service as Chief Justice, she began what she now considers her most important work - her legacy of civic education. In 2009, she founded iCivics - a nonprofit on a mission to transform civic education for every student in America with innovative and engaging games and resources. Today, iCivics is used by approximately 200,000 teachers providing civic education to 5 million students across all 50 states.

Today's Slice of Americana
Today, is 7/11 ... Or, more properly, it's 7-Eleven Day. So, whether you're a 12-year old or 92-year old Flag Steward fan, go out and get a free Slurpee at a nearby 7-Eleven convenience store. Good citizen, you deserve it! And, if their rules are like past years, bring your own jumbo cup or bucket to fill with refreshing Slurpee. It's a fun way to close out a week of celebrating American FREEdom ;)
