... a Saturday Replay of Thursday's Reminders ...
( perhaps because Chief Flag Steward is participating in the Danny Dietz 6-28-05 Memorial Workout today ;)
[ GO HERE to perform this week's Pre-Pledge Tribute at any time you like. But, ... we recommend you designate each Friday as #FlagDayFriday
- a day to take 2 minutes to perform a pre-Pledge Tribute, which will make Pledge of Allegiance more engaging and meaningful. ]

Today's Star-Spangled Inspiration

"A champion is someone who gets up when he can't."
Today's Flag Status
The Flag of the United States of America flies at full staff across our great states, except in Arizona. And, Maryland has a special State Flag half-staff.
The Flag of the United States of America flies at full staff across our great states, except in Arizona. And, Maryland has a special State Flag half-staff.
In Arizona, the US and State Flag are at half-staff from sunrise to sunset today to commemorate the lives of 19 firefighters lost on this date, June 30, 2013. A special forest firefighting team from Prescott, Arizona, known as the 'Granite Mountain Hotshots' was overtaken when the fire near Yarnell changed directions and trapped them. The Granite Mountain Hotshots Memorial State Park has now been erected to honor them and the sacrifice they made to protect others and their property.
In Maryland, as a mark of respect for the shooting victims in Annapolis on Wednesday, the Maryland State Flag only was ordered to half-staff this morning and will remain so until sunset on Monday, July 2nd.

Today's Historical Reminder
... is a Saturday Replay of Thursday's memories ...
<The Great War's beginning and end date, June 28th - what a strange coincidence>

<The Great War's beginning and end date, June 28th - what a strange coincidence>
On this date, June 28th, was the beginning and the end of World War I.
Archduke Ferdinand of Austria and his wife were assassinated June 28, 1914. This began a chain of events that led to a number of countries and empires fighting in the First World War. Then, exactly five years later, June 28, 1919, Germany and the Allied Powers (Britain, France, Russia, Italy, and the United States) signed the Treaty of Versailles, the most important of the World War I treaties ending the war and establishing the League of Nations to try and maintain peace.
TODAY'S SPECIAL COMBATANT KILLED-IN-ACTION (KIA) COMMEMORATION:
Sadly, on this date, June 28th, 2005, was one of the worst days in Special Operations history.
During a military operation intended to stop the Taliban from interfering with the upcoming Afghan elections, known as Operation Red Wings, 19 sailors and soldiers were killed during combat action against Taliban forces in Afghanistan.
