... by telling them about the significance of June 14th ...
On this date, June 14th, America had two very historic events occur - leading to today's announcement of June 14th as "Flag Day" and the "US Army Birthday." On June 14 of 1775, the Second Continental Congress established the Continental Army by passing the following resolution:
"Resolved, That six companies of expert riflemen, be immediately raised in Pennsylvania, two in Maryland, and two in Virginia; … [and] that each company, as soon as completed, shall march and join the army near Boston, to be there employed as light infantry, under the command of the chief Officer in that army." Henceforth, June 14th has been proclaimed as the U.S. Army's birthday.
Additionally, on June 14 of 1777, a resolution was passed naming the 'Stars and Stripes' as our National Flag. Please, CLICK HERE to review this week's Pre-Pledge Tribute to learn a bit more about Flag Day (June 14th).

Today's Slice of Americana
On June 14 of 1998, Michael Jordan led the Chicago Bulls to their 6th NBA Championship of the 1990s - all with him at the lead. In fact, they won every NBA title between 1991 and 1998, except when Jordan left the NBA in 1994 and 1995 to play MLB for 2 seasons. In his final game, he scored 45 points and hit the game winning shot with 5 seconds left and 87 to 86 lead.
