Colorado has its Flags (USA and State) at half-staff on May 12th to pay tribute to US Army Specialist Gabriel Conde of Loveland, CO. Specialist Conde, 22, who was killed in combat on April 30, 2018 in Afghanistan, has served in Alaska since April 2016. He was a member of Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson's 4th Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division. He joined the Army in August of 2015 after graduating from Berthoud HS in 2014 and attending one year of college at the Colorado School of Mines.
In Michigan, its Flags (USA and State Flag) are at half-staff, on May 11 and 12, 2018, within the State Capitol complex, and is encouraged at all schools, to honor State Superintendent of schools Brian Whiston.
Maryland's State Flag is at half staff to honor Kevin Kamenetz, County Executive of Baltimore County and Democratic candidate for Governor, until the day of his funeral.

On this date, May 8th, in 1884, Harry S. Truman, our 33rd President, was born in Lamar, Missouri. Truman was the son of a farmer, didn't go to college, and in 1916 joined the US Army, at the late age of 33, to fight in WWI. In 1922, Truman entered politics - going on to serve in the US Senate from 1934 to 1945, when he was chosen as Vice President to Franklin D. Roosevelt. Upon entering office he was immediately preoccupied with the decision on how and when to end WWII fighting with Japan.

On May 10th of 1970, Bobby Orr led the Bruins to the Stanley Cup title with a dramatic win in sudden-death overtime against the St. Louis Blues. It had been 29 years since the Bruins’ last NHL championship. Bobby Orr is considered by many to still be the great defenseman to ever play in the NHL.
