Reminders from Our Flag
for Wednesday, March 28, 2018
- a 'Women to Honor' and 'End of Watch Wednesday'
[We recommend you designate each Friday as #FlagDayFriday - a day to take a moment and be thankful for all America offers by performing a pre-Pledge Tribute.  But, if #FlagDayFriday doesn't fit within your morning schedule, you're welcome to GO HERE to perform this week's Pre-Pledge Ceremony on any day of the week.]

Across the USA, Our Flag flies at full staff, except in Georgia and portions of Missouri*

As of 1030amCST today, Kansas Governor Jeff Colyer has ordered flags to be flown at half-staff from today until sun-down Friday, March 30, 2018 to honor the life of civil rights icon, Linda Brown, who as a young girl was the center of the landmark case Brown v. Board of Education, in which the Supreme Court declared the segregationist doctrine of "separate but equal" to be unconstitutional. "Linda Brown's life reminds us that by standing up for our principles and serving our communities we can truly change the world. Linda's legacy is a crucial part of the American story and continues to inspire the millions who have realized the American dream because of her."
In Georgia, the U.S. and State Flags will fly at half-staff until sunset on March 29th to honor former Governor and U.S. Senator Zell Miller.  He was a US Marine veteran who became Georgia's Governor and U.S. Senator.
[*Note: In Missouri, all flags at all State and government offices will be flown at half-staff, in the County of St. Louis from sunrise on March 22 until sunset on March 30, 2018, to commemorate the life of Cloria Brown, a Missouri state legislature Representative, who died while in office.]
[**Note 2: Also, by order of the Missouri Governor, all flags at all State and government offices will be flown at half-staff, in the counties of Cass, Clay, Jackson, Platte, Audrain, Boone and Cole until sunset on March 30, 2018 to honor FBI Special Agent Melissa Morrow.]

On this 'Women to Honor Wednesday', during this 'Women's History Month,' we recognize the influence of ...
... Abigail Adams - America's 2nd First Lady ...
During this week in 1776, Abigail Adams penned one of her more inspiring letters to her husband, John Adams.  Out of the more than 1,000 letters written between her and her husband, this letter stood out because it called out John Adams and members of Congress to "remember the ladies" as they were planning America's independence.
In her letter she wrote:
"I long to hear that you have declared an independency. And, by the way, in the new code of laws which I suppose it will be necessary for you to make, I desire you would remember the ladies and be more generous and favorable to them than your ancestors. Do not put such unlimited power into the hands of the husbands. Remember, all men would be tyrants if they could. If particular care and attention is not paid to the ladies, we are determined to foment a rebellion, and will not hold ourselves bound by any laws in which we have no voice or representation.”
Abigail had taken the first brave and righteous step in the fight for women's equal rights.  Unfortunately, it took 150 years of toil before women secured their right to vote - a giant leap towards equal billing with men.
