Strengthening Our Future by Honoring & Awakening Our Flag
Reminders from Our Flag
for Thursday, March 15, 2018
[We recommend you designate each Friday as #FlagDayFriday - a day to take a moment and be thankful for all America offers by performing a pre-Pledge Tribute.  But, if #FlagDayFriday doesn't fit within your morning schedule, you're welcome to GO HERE to perform this week's Pre-Pledge Ceremony on any day of the week.]

Across the USA, Our Flag flies at full staff.

On March 15th of 1820, Maine was admitted as the 23rd state in the Union as part of the Missouri Compromise.
The U.S. Congress compromise, added Missouri as a "Slave State" and Maine as a "Free State."  Originally, settled by the French, most of Maine became part of the Massachusetts Colony before being split out as its own territory and eventually a state.  Maine, which is 90% covered by forests - hence the name "Pine Tree State", provided strong fishing, lumbering, and shipbuilding industries in the 1700s and 1800s.
Today, Maine is still the least populated state east of the Mississippi and is a great sporting escape - fishing, hiking, hunting, etc..
Today's 'slice of Americana'

On this date in 1970, Bobby Orr scored his 100th point of the season.
He was the first defenseman to score 100 points in a season.  Many consider him the greatest scoring defenseman in NHL history.
