Strengthening Our Future by Honoring & Awakening Our Flag
Reminders from Our Flag
for Tuesday, March 6, 2018
[Note:  Play this patriotic music in the background to enhance the experience]
[We recommend you designate each Friday as #FlagDayFriday - a day to take a moment and be thankful for all America offers by performing a pre-Pledge Tribute.  But, if #FlagDayFriday doesn't fit within your morning schedule, you're welcome to GO HERE to perform this week's Pre-Pledge Ceremony on any day of the week.]

Today's Flag Status:
Across the USA, Our Flag flies at full staff.

[*Note: MO & MD have special State Flag statuses]
Picture
[Note 1:  In Missouri, by order of the Governor, all flags at all State and government offices will be flown at half-staff, in the County of St. Louis until sunset on March 9, 2018 to honor former State Representative Keith English.]
[Note 2:   The Maryland State Flag is at
half-staff in honor of Senator Wayne Norman, who died Sunday, March 4, 2018. Senator Norman represented Legislative District 35.  The MD State Flag will remain at half-staff until the day State Senator Norman's funeral on March 9th.]

Flag Steward - Honors and Awakens Our Flag to Inform and Inspire Patriotic Citizens
On Tuesdays, we try for a 2-fer that makes you Think & Laugh.
So now, think...
... Who Am I?
Picture
[ =public domain image ]

-I was inspired by my relatives, my mother and wife were deaf and his father, grandfather, and brother all worked as speech therapists, to make this invention that brought the world closer together.

-My most famous invention was patented on March 7, 1876, but I found the invention so bothersome that I did not put one in my office.  And today, parents find it so annoying that they wish they never gave one to their kids ;)

-My trusted assistant, Thomas Watson, was a machine operator who helped build my invention

Do you know who I am yet?
Here's one last hint:
-Three days after receiving the patent for the telephone, my first words were "“Mr. Watson, come here, I need you”

Yes, I'm Alexander Graham Bell - inventor of the telephone and one of America's greatest innovators.
I embodied the spirit of American of innovation that continues today in Silicon Valley, LA, NYC, and all the pioneering locations in between.

We made you think, so now you get to
Laugh:
Following today's Who Am I theme, ... here's a joke.
What did the man say when he got a big phone bill?

“Who said talk is cheap?”

Closing with a slice of Americana ...

[ 1958 Hula-Hooper = wikipedia image ]

Strangely, 5 years after it was first sold, the Wham-O company patented the Hula-Hoop on March 6, 1963.  Production in the first few months ballooned to more than 20 million units, but then it faded drastically.  Over the years, it has kept a low, but steady sales stream to folks who like to gyrate their hips.  That has amounted to millions upon millions of Hula-Hoops sold around the world.

Thanks for reviewing today's 'Reminders for Our Flag'
- a service from the Flag Steward program
Now go 'Be a good citizen' today by ...
... picking up and disposing of 2 pieces of trash that will help
keep America beautiful !!!
