[Note:  Play this patriotic music in the background to enhance the experience]
[We recommend you designate each Friday as #FlagDayFriday - a day to take a moment and be thankful for all America offers by performing a pre-Pledge Tribute.  But, if #FlagDayFriday doesn't fit within your morning schedule, you're welcome to GO HERE to perform this week's Pre-Pledge Ceremony on any day of the week.]

Across the USA, Our Flag flies at full staff - except in AK.

In Alaska,  Our Flag is flown at half-staff, until Thursday, March 1, 2018 at sunset, in honor of former House Speaker Joe Hayes who passed away February 16, 2018 at the age of 88. Speaker Hayes served in the Alaska State House from 1977 to 1984 and as Speaker of the House from 1981 to 1984.

On this 'Women to Honor Wednesday' during 'African American History Month,' we recall ...
... Hattie McDaniel ...
Hattie McDaniel was an entertainment pioneer  She was the first African American to win an Oscar.  She won the Best Supporting Actress Award for her 1939 role in Gone with the Wind.  Hattie was born in Wichita, Kansas, in 1895 and became a talented singer and actress while growing up in Denver, Colorado. In 1924, she made another first - becoming one of the first African American women to sing on U.S. radio.  She went on to inspire and mentor many other African American actresses and singers to follow their entertainment career dreams, as you can see from the photo below.
