The Beacon of Honor - Awakens Our Flag to Inform and Inspire Patriotic Citizens

On this 'Women to Honor Wednesday' during 'African American History Month,' we recall ...
... Cathay Williams ...
He (secretly a 'She') served for 2-years as a Private in the U.S. Army expanding America's protection of citizens to the West.  Back in that time, women were not allowed to serve in the military, but she grew up serving as a cook feeding the Union soldiers during the Civil War and was very familiar with it.  Since it was difficult to find work as a liberated female slave, she secretly joined the U.S. Army in 1866 to make ends meet.  She and other members of her 'Buffalo Soldier' infantry regiment, marched hundreds of miles throughout the West from Missouri to Oklahoma and New Mexico battling Native Americans and others resisting America's expansion.  Her bravery, fighting spirit, and sly abilities earned her fame and reflected an American pioneering way of a different kind.
