The Beacon of Honor - Awakens Our Flag to Inform and Inspire Patriotic Citizens
Happy birthday to Susan B. Anthony. The leader of women's suffrage (right to vote) was born on this date in 1820 in Massachusetts. She fought for women's rights and all her hard work finally paid-off in 1920 - when women were able to vote. Her civil rights efforts were recognized in 1979 when she became the first American woman on a U.S. coin.
And, today's 'Slice of Americana' serves up ...
[Embarassingly, instead of posting NASCAR's Dale Earnhardt memory as a piece of Americana to recall and enjoy today ... yesterday's school shooting prompts this sad reflection on what seems to be becoming standard in our U.S. schools - shootings. Why? Why are the newest generation of teens so inclined to gun violence? They need our help and prayers like never before. So, here's a sad statement about our current gun violence in schools:]
No one seems to have an answer as to how to stop, or at least slow, this current rise in gun violence. It seems our kids need more love and attention, at a minimum. They yearn for open and honest in person, not via social media, conversations with their peers, parents, and teachers - instilling faith in them that good times are ahead.
Do you agree that taking time to ensure our teens are having more constructive group conversations, in person, to discuss, vent, and potentially resolve issues instead of turning to social media to air them would be helpful? Perhaps, we need to bring back 'home room' at high schools? Kids seem to need a 'home' and if they can't find it with their parents, sadly, than our schools need to provide that comfort, attention, and love.
On this date in 1998, racing legend Dale Earnhardt, aka 'The Intimidator,' finally won his first Daytona 500. During his NASCAR career he won the season title 7-times, a record at the time.
