Across the USA, Our Flag flies at full staff - except in Alaska and Colorado.
In Alaska, Our Flag is at half-staff to honor former Superior Court Judge Roy Madsen. Judge Madsen was the first Alaska Native to become a Superior Court Judge and served from 1975-1990. AK's half-staff will fly through sunset of Thursday, February 1st.
Colorado's half-staff of Our Flag commemorates Adams County Deputy Heath Gumm and will remain so until sunset on Friday, February 2nd, the day of the funeral.

The Beacon of Honor - Awakens Our Flag to Inform and Inspire Patriotic Citizens
February is Black History Month and one of its leading authorities, the Association for the Study of African American Life and History, has set this year's theme to be 'African-Americans in Times of War.' The theme matches up with the end of World War I in 1918 - what many called, "The War to end all wars."
So, during this month, we'll follow that theme and highlight fearless, service-first African Americans who fought in the American Revolutionary War and every conflict since then, including today's Global War on Terrorism.
And, today's 'Slice of Americana' serves up ...
Tomorrow is Groundhog Day - a tradition that started on February 2nd in 1887 in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania. Its roots come from Germany - where they used hedgehogs to predict the weather. German immigrants to Pennsylvania then brought over the tradition and decided to use the more plentiful groundhogs instead of hedgehogs.
If the Groundhog, named Punxsutawney Phil, sees his shadow tomorrow, what does that mean for the U.S. weather?
Thanks for reviewing today's 'Reminders for Our Flag'

Now go 'Be a good citizen' today by ...
