For this #FlagDayFriday, we proclaim that across the USA, Our Flag flies at full staff - except in Colorado and South Carolina.
In Colorado, Our Flag is at half-staff to commemorate Adams County Deputy Heath Gumm, who was killed in the line of duty on Wednesday evening (1/24). The U.S. and CO flags will remain at half-staff until the funeral (date TBD). Click here to learn more about the life of Heath Gumm.

On this 'Flag Day Friday,' we remember the Apollo 1 crew, that died on January 27, 1967, while conducting a training session inside their space capsule. Go here to learn from NASA more about these courageous astronauts - Roger Chaffee, Ed White, Virgil Grissom. This tragic incident is part of a trio of life-ending NASA mission accidents that occurred around this date. Click the following links to honor our lost astronauts as part of pre-Pledge Observance or pre-Anthem Ceremony for this 'Flag Day Friday'.

During this past week, in the Global War on Terrorism (OIF/OEF) combat zones of Iraq and Afghanistan (OIF and OEF), thankfully, there were no fallen combatants.
Unfortunately though, two U.S. Army Apache helicopter pilots lost their lives during a training exercise in the California desert. And, one Marine died during parachute training in Arizona.
U.S. Army helicopter pilots First Lt. Clayton Cullen and Chief Warrant Officer 2 Kevin Burke were killed when their helicopter crashed during training Saturday morning at Fort Irwin, California. Both soldiers were assigned to the 4th Combat Aviation Brigade, 4th Infantry Division at Fort Carson, Colorado.
To learn more about Cullen, 25, of Bicknell, Indiana, click here.
And, to read more about Burke, 28, of California, go here.
U.S. Marine Corporal Alejandro "Alex" Romero, 22, of Carson, California, served as a Reconnaissance Scout with Bravo Company, 3rd Reconnaissance Battalion, 3rd Marine Division, III Marine Expeditionary Force based in Okinawa, Japan.

So, we honor and salute Cullen, Burke, and Romero for defending our freedoms and fighting to liberate the lives of others.
