Reminders from Our Flag
for Thursday, December 21, 2017
[Note:  Play this patriotic music in the background to enhance the experience]

Across the USA, Our Flag flies at full staff - except in Arizona where it flies at half-staff to honor El Mirage Police Officer Paul Lazinsky who died in the line of duty on December 12th.

[ Henry Bacon paints what he envisioned as the Mayflower Pilgrim's first landing at Plymouth =public domain image ]

It is believed by many, that on this date (OTD), Dec. 21, 1620, the first Mayflower ship passengers, known as Pilgrims, set foot upon land to establish the Plymouth Colony (within today's state of Massachusetts).  The Plymouth Rock, in Plymouth, Massachusetts, with a 1620 engraving is said to have been where the Pilgrims, and their leader William Bradford, first made landfall.  They did not settle upon the land that winter.  Instead, they stayed aboard the Mayflower and unfortunately a disease spread through the ship and only half survived and began living within the Plymouth Colony in the spring of 1621.

And, today's 'Slice of Americana' serves up ...

that ... 100 years ago, World War I posters like this, were published to promote American citizen's physical, spiritual, and financial support of the war.  Government bonds (investments) were sold to citizens to raise money to build war materials and supply food to Allied troops fighting in Europe.

Thanks for reviewing today's 'Reminders for Our Flag'
- a service from the Beacon of Honor - Awakens Our Flag program
'Be a good citizen' today by ...
... picking up and disposing of 2 pieces of trash that will help
keep America beautiful !!!

Now, go be a good citizen!!!
