The Beacon of Honor - Awakens Our Flag to Inform and Inspire Patriotic Citizens
On this date, December 1, 1955, Rosa Parks refused to give up her bus seat to a white man and move to the black section of the city bus. For this defiant act, which is considered the beginning of the modern civil rights movement, Rosa Parks was arrested by Montgomery, Alabama police. After her arrest, African-Americans in Montgomery began a year-long boycott of the city bus system and legal challenges to Montgomery's city bus racial segregation were taken all the way to the U.S Supreme Court. The U.S. Supreme Court ruled that the bus system racial discrimination was illegal and that buses had to be desegregated (racially integrated).
