Some designate this date, November 30th, in 1995, as the official end of the 'Gulf War,' which included Operation Desert Shield, Operation Desert Storm, and Operation Provide Comfort. The Gulf War was between a 35-nation coalition force led by the U.S. versus Iraq - to reverse its invasion and takeover of Kuwait. The main thrust of the war was from January to April of 1991 - when Iraq accepted a cease-fire treaty. This war was called the Video Game War because of the remarkable live new broadcast from the frontline and the daily images from cameras onboard U.S. aircraft. The war was very one-sided as seen by through the casualty count of approximately 20,000 Iraqis killed in battle versus less than 400 coalition forces' combatants killed (including only 146 from the U.S. forces). Unfortunately, peace did not last in this area and U.S. forces returned in force to end Saddam Hussein's reign of terror during Operation Iraqi Freedom - which began in 2003.
