On this date, November 23rd, in 1804, Franklin Pierce was born in New Hampshire. After being elected as a U.S. Representative and U.S. Senator for the state of New Hampshire, Pierce joined the Army and served as a high-ranking Brigadier General during the Mexican-American War in 1848. In 1952 he was elected as the 14th President of the United States of America. Unfortunately, he's viewed by most historians as one of our worst Presidents because his actions, or lack thereof, more division was created between the north and south over how to handle slavery - all leading to the start of the Civil War.
