TODAY'S REMINDER FROM OUR FLAG:
... America's first government roadmap ...
... America's first government roadmap ...
On this date, November 15th, in 1777, the Articles of Confederation, which served as our first constitution, were approved and sent to the states for ratification. The Articles of Confederation were written by the Second Continental Congress to establish how our state and federal (United States) governments would work together to manage big issues. The Articles created a war-time confederation (teamwork plan) for the states to protect themselves while giving the central (federal) government very limited powers. This document helped Congress to manage the American Revolutionary War, deal with foreign countries, handle Native American relations, and settle land disputes.
