... Columbus Day in USA ...

Columbus Day is a national holiday in many of the Americas' countries - including the United States of America.  This holiday celebrates the anniversary of Christopher Columbus landing in the Americas on October 12, 1492.
Columbus Day first became an official state holiday in Colorado in autumn of 1905, and became a national holiday in 1937.  In 1892, President Benjamin Harrison called for a patriotic celebration of the 400th anniversary of Columbus discovering the Americas / New World.  In response to that, Francis Bellamy, created and distributed the 'Pledge of Allegiance.'

GO HERE to learn about this connection between the Pledge and Columbus Day.
