On September 3, 1783, the Treaty of Paris was signed - ending the American Revolutionary War.

eace negotiations led by Benjamin Franklin, John Jay, Henry Laurens, and John Adams for the United States and by David Hartley and Richard Oswald representing Great Britain, started in April, 1782.

Died September 3, 2004 Serving During Operation Iraqi Freedom

First Lieutenant Ronald Winchester, 25, of Rockville Center, N.Y.; assigned to 1st Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center, Twentynine Palms, Calif.;
killed Sept 3 by enemy action in Anbar province, Iraq.
